  • Hishamuddin warn contractors who sacrifire quality of educational project will be black-listed.

BINTULU: The Education Ministry will blacklist contractors who sacrifice quality to save on building cost.

“The same warning goes to school canteen operators and school bus operators,” Education Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein (pictured right) said after visiting SJKC Chung Hua Bintulu 2 here yesterday.

He said despite the rising cost, projects undertaken by the ministry had passed the Key Performance Indicators.

Under the Ninth Malaysia Plan, Sarawak had been allocated RM3.015 billion for 2,187 projects, of which 970 had been completed, 351 projects are under construction and another 492 at the pre-construction stage.

Of the 970 education projects completed, 383 were power generation for rural schools.

“The ministry’s diesel bill nationwide stands at RM1 billion annually. With the 40 per cent fuel price increase, I will need to find another RM400 million,” said Hishammuddin.

He said the ministry would study whether the solar power system and diesel-run generators used in Sabah could be used by rural schools in the other states.

At the function, he also gave a RM500,000 allocation to be shared by four Chinese primary schools here.
