01/06/2008: Two more sites for low cost houses



BINTULU: The Local Government and Housing Ministry has identified two sites in Sarawak for the construction of low cost houses under the Integrated People Housing Project of the Ninth Malaysia Plan (9MP).

Its Assistant Minister Datuk Robert Lau said 1,000 units of low cost houses would be built in Kemena, Bintulu and another 500 units in Seduan, Sibu .

The construction of the two projects, with the estimated cost of RM120 million and RM51 million respectively, are expected to commence by September  this year.

Ong said this while making his reply to Bintulu Member of Parliament, Dato Seri Tiong King Sing during the recent sitting of the Dewan Rakyat.

The Minister explained that the 1,500 units under the Integrated People Housing Project would be rented out to the low income groups.

Three other ongoing low cost housing projects under the Eighth Malaysia Plan are at Sri Wangi,  Batu 5 and Kampung Batu Gong in Kuching.

The implementation of Integrated Housing Project was to eradicate the problem of squatters in the state.
