However, it was still a great time for 2000-odd revellers who turned up at the venue as early as 7.30pm to be pampered with a series of entertaining programmes lined up for the evening.

Entertainers comprising singers and a dance troupe from Kuching City, with Masterpiece Band, provided live music performance which thrilled the crowd during the evening event.

Organising chairman for the programme themed ‘An Evening In Bintulu’, Dr Razali Abon officiated the opening ceremony.

Razali, who is also Bintulu Resident, also read the text of speech of Bintulu Member of Parliament Dato Seri Tiong King Sing during the opening address.
Among the events held at the  function was the presentation of prizes to winners in the Kebaya Beauty Contest.

The highlight of the evening function was the display of 20 minutes of fireworks which excited the crowd.

The festive mood was also shared by heads of government departments and community leaders present at the function.

No untowards incident occurred as scores of policemen were deployed at the scene to monitor the traffic flow.
