PROBE ONGOING: Sulaiman being interviewed during the press conference.

KOTA SAMARAHAN: The police have managed to ‘lift’ one fingerprint from the threatening letters addressed to the Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan and Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.

This was revealed by Bintulu OCPD Supt Sulaiman Abdul Razak who said the fingerprint had been sent to a chemist in Kuching for analysis, but it might take ‘some time’ before the results were known.

Sulaiman said the police had to date interviewed and taken statements from 12 persons, including one man whose name and identity card number was written at the end of both letters.

“None of the 12 persons are suspects, including the man whose name is on both letters. They are only acquainted with the case,” he said.

However, he said pending the results of the fingerprint analysis, the man would not be dismissed as a suspect either.
Sulaiman declined to comment on the background of the man, except to say that he was a resident of Bintulu.

Regarding the four cartridges, he said they were Malaysian-made ‘Rimba’ brand cartridges, which could be bought from or sold by any licensed arms dealer.

He added that even though fingerprints were found on the cartridges which had been included with the letters, police were unable to ‘lift’ any due to the texture of the cartridges.

The investigation is still ongoing. We are continuing with our enquiries. At the moment it (investigation) is still very open,” the OCPD said.

Sulaiman was speaking at a press conference after attending the launching of the Rakan Cop programme at the new Unimas campus yesterday.
