| BINTULU: Ministry
of Health has agreed to withhold the operation of haemodialysis centre
set up by St John Ambulance of Malaysia (SJAM) at Taman Jasmine here with
effect from November 15.
Member of Parliament for P216 Bintulu Dato Seri Tiong King Sing said this was the decision endorsed by the Ministry concerned after he had personally met its Minister Datuk Dr Chua Soi Lek to deliberate on the dispute over the setting up of such centre in a housing estate by the SJAM. "The Health Ministry has also directed the relevant agency in Kuching to do the follow up immediately in regards to the Ministry's directive," said Tiong. Touching on the demand of SJAM for monetary compensation of about RM18,000 to RM20,000 from the house owner for breach of agreement pertaining to the renting of the said semi-detached double storey residence for the operation of haemodialysis centre, Tiong commented it was unfair to the house owner. "SJAM should not put the blame on the house owner as the objection was raised by the residents in Taman Jasmine over the setting up of such haemodialysis centre," remarked Tiong. Besides, Tiong pointed out the house owner was an old man and an illiterate. Although other members of his family had been briefed on the operation of the haemodialysis centre by SJAM, they did know the details and implications regarding the operation of such centre. Tiong also stressed he was not against the goodwill of SJAM of setting up such centre except its locality. "By right, SJAM should know which area is much more appropriate for haemodialysis centre before implementing such charitable project," added Tiong. He also advised any charitable body that wished to carry out such activity should consult the local Wakil Rakyat or residents in the area concerned before embarking any project. "It is always the policy of the Barisan Nasional government to listen to the views and reasons put forth by all parties concerned before implementing any major project," he noted. He added Taman Jasmine which is densely populated and congested was definitely not a suitable place for the haemodialysis centre to be set up. Tiong hoped the SJAM would respect the object raised by the residents of Taman Jasmine while taking immediate action to move to other suitable location. Tiong also said he
had no objection for SJAM to making use of the existing premise which it
had rented as the temporary storing of the medical equipment until it had
found the suitable location...END
